GCA’s Nutrition Month Webinar Tackles Ways To Combat Malnutrition, Stunting, COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest threat to our physical health today. Now, more than ever, being healthy should be our top priority. As such, Great Christian Academy (GCA) celebrated last year’s Nutrition Month with an online webinar that aims to help our parents, students, and teachers boost their immune system through nutrition. 

The webinar, entitled Boost Your Immune System Through Nutrition, was a nod to this year’s national theme for Nutrition Month, “Batang Pinoy SANA TALL… Iwas stunting, SAMA ALL!”.  

GCA wanted to actively tackle malnutrition and stunting in the country while promoting ways to combat COVID-19 through the webinar. To do just that and more, GCA invited Ms. Ashley Gayle Dimaano, a Nutrition Counselor and Diabetes Educator, to lead our parents and students to the right path.

Ms. Dimaano discussed the various steps parents and students should take to further support their immune system and keep their bodies in shape amidst the pandemic. Specifically, Ms. Dimaano detailed the elements and importance of food preparation, family nutrition, and a balanced diet.

As a registered nutritionist-dietician, we really advocate for a healthy lifestyle through proper nutrition, diet, and exercise in order to avoid bad habits. Part of that is our duty to also advocate what macronutrients are,” Ms. Dimaano said in her opening statement. 

True to her advocacy and dwelling on the webinar’s topic, Ms. Dimaano started the talk with the importance of go, grow, and glow food. She detailed the nutrients children could get from different food sources and stressed the importance of MOderation, VAriety, and Balance (MOVABA) in consuming food, preventing malnutrition, and boosting immune systems.  

Moving forward, Ms. Dimaano narrowed down the best immune-boosting habits every parent and student should follow, especially now that there’s a pandemic. The list includes sleeping properly, exercising, observing proper hygiene, and relaxing. 

All these tips and pieces of advice from Ms. Dimaano can surely help us boost our immune systems and ultimately prevent the spread of COVID-19, so make sure to follow her every word for everyday reference.
